Flight Cadet & Marine Cadet
Enlistment position The cadets only duty at this point is to
complete the training requirements to help him/her attain a position within the fleet.
Requirements can be found here
---=Recruit Link=---
Duties:
- Complete Training Requirements
Wingman & Squad member
One main thing is required to be accomplished as a wingman or squad member and that is to answer your e-mail at
least 2x in a month in order not to be considered absence with out leave (AWOL). The
Squadron Leader may have other requirements for his/her individual wingman as far as
activity is concerned.
Your only job is to fly the OSF custom missions/battles or some form of activity as requested by your SQL or general activity to gain points for your next higher rank. Attaining a higher position or rank is only
limited by your activity and or accomplishments.
Duties:
- Report in at 2x a month minimum
- Answer e-mail at 2x a month
Flight Lieutenant & Squad XO
The Requirements are similar to the wingmans or squad member's. Exceptions are the promotion and
responsibilities side of the job. There is only one FLT/SQXO per squadron/unit. Since
the Squadron Leader assumes the position of the first Flight Lieutenant position.
Squadron Leaders or Squad COs may adopt local orders required for their FLTs/SQXOs, however, those will be the approved orders by the immediate superior either the WCOM or PXO .
Duties:
- Report in at least 2x a month minimum
- Answer e-mail at least 2x a month (min)
- Submit a weekly flight report to the SqL
Remember you didnt get here by being slack in your duties, so keep up the hard work as it can benefit you later.
Squadron Leader & Squad CO
Squadron Leaders are the immediate command supervisor of the squadron. They are
considered to be management and must act accordingly. Their duty is paperwork intensive,
and must expect this when assuming the roll of Squadron Leader. In this position the
SQL's should be knowledgeable about the Standard Operating procedures and regulations
of the Orion Strike Fleet
SQL's will recommend awards and promotions to the WCOM submitted to them from the
FLT's or Squadron members. Will also submit AWOL/Inactive reports for those pilots in
question. The WCOM can also recommend the removal of a SQL that is not active or not being
productive. As this hurts the squadron more than helps. You may also act as an SQL
assistant if requested to do so by the SQL when leave is required, or you can place a
suitable assistant from within the squadron.
Duties:
- Review pilots *.tfrs for error and or tampering
- Submit pilots *.tfrs for battles/missions flown
- Be highly active and set leadership examples
- Be informative, i.e. sending e-mail to the squadron concerning
competitions, etc.
- Submit weekly reports to the WCOM
- Submit awards and promotion recommendations to the WCOM
- Review squadron home pages for unsuitable material
Remember you are the first line in the Chain of Command for the Officers under you.
Show them the respect that you expect to receive. You have the authority to decide on
squadron mottos and banners but they must be submitted to the Fleet Operations Command.
Stay in constant contact with your people. You also have the authority request a removal
of a pilot you feel is Inactive or AWOL.
However, the Fleet Operations Command will make the final decision on removal. These
type of requests must go through the Chain of Command. If you have standing orders for
your squadron they must be submitted to the WCOM for approval. Once approved they must be
posted either on the squadrons web site or the ships site under standing orders. In the
event of leave you must assign an assistant, otherwise one will be assigned in your absence
and possibly on a permanent basis.
You are expected to resolve problems that arise and cant be handled by the FLT,
handling items at the lowest level before sending it up to your WCOM. Sending problems
directly with out trying first (as a just because thing) is not acceptable nor tolerated
for command level responsibility. This could be a reason for your removal as SQL. If
the matter directly involves you and a member, then the member(s) may direct their e-mail
to the WCOM.
Remember that if your not around or can not be contacted for a week, the WCOM has the
authority to have you replaced unless there is good reason. If you know your going to be
gone for more than a week, then it would be in your best interest to assign and assistant
to hold down the fort until your return. This would be either a FLT under your command or
the WCOM for temporary.
Wing Commodore & Platoon Executive (PXO)
Wing Commodores will be selected from the best Squadron Leaders by a board of their
peers. The main job of the WCOM is administrative. You are expected to ensure that members
under your command are doing their jobs correctly and to ensure they are knowledgeable of
the OSF regulations and standing operating procedures. You will be expected to take up the
slack where your SQLs lack the experience and knowledge.
WCOMs are expected to create competitive opportunities for the pilots within the
Fleet. (i.e. creating competitions and contests against different squadrons in other
Wings). These competitions are normally larger or more detailed than the standard
competitions setup by SQLs. This is a paperwork and administrative position if done
right. You are also expected to fill in the SQL position if he/she is absent or a suitable
replacement is not found during their absence. You may also be required to fill the
position Ships Commodore (SCOM), should the SCOM desire to take leave or is absent and
or any other additional jobs the SCOM may request.
You are expected to mandate a set of standing orders for the Wing, so someone attached
may find out what are your expectations of them. These standing orders should be posted at
this ships website along with the ships standing orders, as the WCOM is actually command
attache stationed on board the ship. All standing orders by the WCOMs and
below can and must be approved by the SCOM. The WCOM is responsible for many pilots and it
will require a lot of e-mail and paperwork time. If a WCOM is gone for more than a week
and without prior approval they may be removed from their position by the SCOM and
replaced. You can request a leave of absence for longer than a week but it is your
responsibility to ensure a suitable assistant is in place.
Duties:
- Be highly active and set leadership examples
- Be informative, i.e. sending e-mail to the ship and SCOM
concerning competitions, etc.
- Submit weekly reports to the SCOM
- Submit awards and promotion recommendations to the SCOM
- Submit scores and pilots *.tfrs for battles/missions flown for
credit.
- Create and coordinate WingSquadron competitions / internal
and external
- Create additional standing orders and or requirements (if
applicable)
Ship Commodore & Platoon CO (PCO)
This position holds a lot of responsibility and requirements. To command a Starship is
one of the ultimate positions that a pilot can hope to achieve, although not many will
succeed in attaining such a position. This job is less paperwork intensive than that of
the WCOM. However, as in any major command position you must be extremely responsible and
mature in making your command decisions. As with the WCOM position you should be able to
handle intership problems which can be resolved by you and not go further. Handling things
at your lowest level is a great responsibility and must not be biased in any way. This
carries a stiff penalty if determined. All things should be considered when handling every
situation.
Your capability to set a respectable example as an Officer and a gentleman or lady is
of the utmost importance. Your officers under your command will be e-mailing you with
every opportunity, your job is at this point, is to screen these and weed out what can
stay with you or continue up the Chain of Command. You will be required to be
knowledgeable of the OSF regulations and standard operating procedures, URLs of
official OSF sites regarding information, and be able to help out in any way if possible
as far as knowledge goes to those who are unsure, or those that do not have the experience
or knowledge.
They are considered command staff and should be very knowledgeable on command policies,
structure, and regulations. Should be able to answer questions and give support to the
WCOMs, which in essence run the ship. The SCOM oversees all competitions and
functions regarding any ships activity, approves or disapproves command functions which
will require e-mail to be sent by the SCOM.
The SCOM basically acts in the supportive roll of the WCOM. Although, he/she is the
ships commander, the position can require them to hold the fort of the WCOM in the event
of a leave of absence, or relinquishment of the position of the WCOM. The SCOM will have
the authority to re-place the WCOM if the SCOM feels that the WCOM is not performing up to
par as per requirements stated for the position. Permanent position changes must be
directed and requested through the Fleet Operations Command via the Chain of Command.
Duties:
- Be highly active and set quality command leadership examples
- Submit weekly reports to the Battle Force Commodore (BFCOM)
- Submit awards and promotion recommendations to the GCOM
- Approve/disapprove Wing and Squadron competitions / internal and
external
- Create additional orders for your ship and or wing requirements
(if applicable)
- Stay in constant contact with WCOM & BFCOM
- Reviews all awards and promotional recommendations as submitted by the SQL's
CNO & CMO
This position carries with it the greatest responsibility yet. This is the most admistrative
of all the Line positions. The member in this position has many duties and may have several
assistants to aid him/her. You are basically a moderator to the fleet. Individual members may
NOT contact the BFCOM individually, unless contacted by him/her. This e-mail
intense position may handle as much as up to 50 e-mails a day and they all must be sorted
according to need and necessity.
This position is similar in nature to that of the SCOM, however, as in any upper
Chain of Command position has even more responsibility. Their knowledge of the Fleets
Regulations and Operating Procedures are expected to be high. They should be able to
assist anyone under their command or otherwise with questions they may have. Their greater
responsibility gives them command overall Starships and support craft.
So the idea of them running a Starship should not even be considered, unless a ship
command position under them can not be filled by the SCOM or a suitable
member, then they will step in and take over. This is undoubtedly the very last resort.
The SCOM should always be looking at qualified pilots under his/her command to replace
those unworthy leaders. They will always receive the monthly evaluations from their
commanders and review all pilots for eventual command position opportunities.
Again this is a supervisory position and will not involve himself/herself with the
arduous duties of running Starships. As they have also proven their worth to do this. They
will oversee the shipboard operations of the Battle Force and give their appointed
commanders advice on the problem areas of running groups of Starships, or just general
advice of everyday items if necessary. Will take over as Sector Commander (SecCOM) in
large Fleet exercises. Just as the SFCOM cant be absent for more than 4
days without prior approval the BFCOM cant either. They can and will be replaced
without prior notice.
The BFCOM should not be contacted directly about a problem unless it absolutely can not
be handled below him/her. A disciplinary action will go to the Disciplinary
Board and will get noted on a pilots service record when the matter is
resolved.
Duties:
- Be extremely active and set quality command leadership examples
- Submit all weekly reports to the Chief of Naval Operations
(CNO)
- Create additional standing orders for your ships (if applicable by
commander)
- Stay in constant contact with SCOMs and the CNO
- Create Battle Force Exercise Orders
- Reviews all Battle Force Exercise Orders
- Reviews all awards and promotional recommendations
Examples of mail are:
- (TP) Top Priority
- (UA) Urgent Action
- (IA) Immediate Action
- (NT) Normal Traffic
So the time he has to personally speak to a member unless a request is sent via Chain
of Command, is very limited. He/she is in overall control of all fleet exercises, i.e.
coordinating Fleet wide exercises, tournaments or contests between clubs, etc.)
All Command Staff Positions
Command Staff play an important role here in the Orion Strike Fleet.
Most positions as well as the CnC's deem it necessary that they stay busy and work hard
towards certain goals. However, as with each position comes certain responsibilities. Each
Command Staff will have a basic free run over their assigned area. Meaning they can set
their own standards and appoint members to be on their staff. However, as with any type of
a Command position there is basic requirements that need to be adhered to. At the end of
every week on friday's reports are due to the (CnC) and (SFO).
This is to show the current progress of each individual area of responsiblity. Some
things that should be included in a report are as follows; (current status, what is being
done, and idea of how far if any, the projects being worked on are getting completed, like
percetages, etc.) This way when the Fleet Report comes out all up-to-date info is and will
be provided to all. Each area of Command level reposibilities will be explained here in
more deatil than that listed on the Command Staff link from the main website.
However, as a mental note, just as in any other position of major responsibility, all
Command Staff are responsible to the (SFO) and finally the (CnC). If at anytime a member
of the Command Staff feels he/she can not do his/her job then, it is their responsibility
to inform the Chain of Command (CoC). The upper staff, (SFO) and the (CnC) need to know.
Especially if your gonna step down, this way we can atleast fulfill that role until
someone else is appointed or to let it be known that you'll stay until a replacement is
chosen. Finally it is to be understood that if the (SFO) and the (CnC) feel you are not
doing your job correctly or adequately, then you will be asked by them to step down or you
will be relieved of your Command. But this will not be direct, you will be given atleast 2
chances to correct any discrepancies noted by the (SFO) or (CnC).
Partial Duties:
- Must be extremely active and set quality command leadership
examples
- Submit all weekly reports (on friday's) to the Commander in Chief
(CnC)
- Create additional standing orders for the respected areas (if
applicable)
- Stay in constant contact (atleast twice a week, once via reports)
with the (SFO) and (CnC)
- Reviews all relevant information regarding their area of
responsibility
- Recommends awards and promotions for personnel directly under
their Command
These are just some of the duties involved with each Command Staff.
Listed later in more detail will be their full level of responsibilities in regards to
each individual Command Position. This duty instruction is the basic guideline behind each
Command Staff, so please follow this and there shouldn't be any problems in the future.
Another thing to keep in mind is that, without prior approval from the Commander in Chief,
you may not change any standards guidelines as have currently been set.
You may submit a request for a change of guidelines or policy to the SNO and CnC. But
this request must accompany the new policy and a description with why it should be
changed. Free control to regulate the Officers under your command does not regulate
authority to change or degrade standard policy. All new policies must be submitted and
approved before actually taking affect. Any further explanation on this matter maybe taken
up with the CnC personally.
