Hello and welcome to the Junior Officers Course, this course will be your first step into the world of command. All this basically is, is a step above the BKAC course you took as a Cadet in training. Remember the minimum requirement in order to take the test in relation to this course, may only be taken by those members who have attained the ranks of Crew Chief (CC) or Master Sergeant (MSGT).
As you should know the CnC is everything in the OSF, he is the reason why it is here and as such he is at the very top of the command ladder, but he is not the only one on the ladder. As it follows from him down:
| Commander in Chief - (CNC) | ---- |
| Secretary of Fleet Operations - (SFO) | ---- |
| Various Command Staff | Depends on whether you work for them |
| Chief of Naval Operations - (CNO) | Chief of Marines Operations - (CMO) |
| Ship Commodore - (SCOM) | Platoon Commander - (PCO) |
| Wing Commodore - (WCOM) | Platoon Executive Officer - (PXO) |
| Squadron Leader - (SQL) | Squad Commander - (SQCO) |
| Flight Lieutenant - (FLT) | Squad Executive Officer - (SQXO) |
| WingMan - (WMN) | Squad Member - (SQM) |
| Navy Cadet - (FCD) - Member in training | Marine Cadet - (FCD) - Member in training |
You should follow this at all times, whether your requesting a medal that you can or can not, you should make every effort to notify your immediate Command Officer. Failure to follow this could result in demotion of position/rank, charges or both. The reason why there is a Chain of Command is to ensure a proper flow of information, if that chain is broken then the there is chaos and the CoC starts to deteriorate, that must not be allowed to happen, unless it fits the exceptions as shown on the OSF Laws under OMC Punitive Article #15.
- Command Duties:
You will learn in time, your command duties for whatever position you go for, but I will cover a few basic ones now.
- First is, you MUST document EVERYTHING, whether or not it is something like: Pilot X got on IRC today and talked. This will help you with rewarding the pilot later on.
- Second is you must constantly keep active as an example to your subordinates, whether it is getting on IRC and talking, E-mail or Flying, ect you must set the example for them, they will follow you to the end, wherever that may lead.
- Third is Competitions, you must use these to keep your pilot skill level up, if not its like anything you lose your edge.
- Fourth is knowledge, you need to know what your talking about. If not then your pilots will not only think your incompetant but they wont follow you.
- All this is easy to remember if you just remember this one word. DACK. Remember he was Luke Skywalkers gunner in the Battle of Hoth, and it stands for Document, Activity, Competitions, and Knowledge.
You should have a report sent out to your command officer at least once a week, whatever day is up to that person. Your report should include squad info, squad rosters, activity report from each of your subordinates, and Fleet news, and should be as a guide in the below format:
Alright that should be it, you now have enough knowledge to take the JOC test. If you have any questions about this test then please feel free to e-mail me at daniellevistephens@yahoo.com.
